salmon marinara

You can say that this is one of my favorite comfort food. But only if it's salmon marinara you can find at Souled Out. Sedap d'owh. The salmon portion is generous too.

FB be gone

For some unexplainable reasons (does every decision-making requires a reason?) I decided to suspend my FB account. I was beginning to feel that I'm becoming highly dependent on FB (reason one); I tend to believe everything I read (reason two) and god, why does everything has to go viral first in order for us to be aware of things (reason three). But I guess you tend to miss out on things as you go, like the eating on diaper fiasco [ROLL EYES] or some lipan crawling into some kid's ear [only because I don't read newspapers].

But who needs viral news when you have abang nara to keep you updated on the latest gossip retis!

But I do miss posting photos and gloating about my children though. Tee hee.

The red beanbag

Celebrated our big boss' birthday last week. The Red Beanbag is his personal choice so ikut je lah. It's located at Publika, and if you look down from this restaurant's balcony you can see my husband's poem in one of Publika's walkways.

My boss' favorite dish. Some sort of lamb stew. It comes with roti canai but ask for garlic bread. Sedap dimakan!

This is my salmon wedged between egg benedict and potato rosti. It was okay.

The food is so-so but i ordered iced mocha (a favorite these days) and wow! I'll definitely be coming back for the coffee.

Day 1 of thankfulness

Vegetarian lunch at Ganga Cafe. The wall behind the cash counter is finally complete!

Ewa di Penchala

Makan di Ewa today. If you know Sambal Hijau in Penchala, then just down the road you can find Ewa Chinese Cuisine. Orang tidak ramai di sini, which I don't know why because their deep fried squid in salted egg yolk and chicken kungpao are very very nice! We earlier went to some ayam kukus place in Damansara Perdana (I think) but the queue was long. Ana Patin House was equally packed so Ewa it is.

Chicken Kung Pao with Arlo, as illustrated by my husband.

You get free tofu if you order the chicken set. On the right is the much loved squid.

Nearing 7

My first-born wore his Standard 1 uniform (bought only yesterday, mind you) for his assessment test today. Yup, same kid who’s had so many adventures in the hospitals, same kid who broke his brother’s tooth, same kid who just recently recovered from a bad case of eczema.

Next year he’s standard 1 already! So bummed I couldn’t be there for him this morning because I had an event that I couldn’t wiggle myself out of. While we constantly feel sorry for ourselves for not being able to send him to a private school we do hope that he will do well. I’m gonna wait until the day before his official 1st day of school to cut his hair because to quote what I just read from an article titled ‘Why I Don’t Want to Cut My Son’s Hair’:

“Because ultimately, I just don’t want that kid to grow up.”

That’s completely true.

This afternoon at Jaya, I saw a former singer with his frail mother. She can still walk, but he was holding her hand and not a single moment did he ever let go. “I hope my sons will grow up to be like him,” I said to myself. Not as a singer, but as good men who will continue to care for me even when I’m too old to be cool.

Ah, Ibu getting melancholic. Can’t wait to get home to hug my Rumi today.

Abang Rumi probably half awake here. <3

The Ganga Cafe

Once in a while I'd follow my colleagues to this favorite vegetarian restaurant of theirs in jalan kurau and boy this Ganga Cafe is full vegetarian. They even have fake meat and all. A bit pricey though.

This was my lunch set. Chapati standard which comes with the side dishes. Ordered fried bitter gourd on the side. So delicious! Last time I came here I ordered nasi briyani but it was too bland for my liking. Besides, I need chicken with my briyani man!!!

Back when I was pregnant with Rumi I ate so much bitter gourd. People say that explains his gorgeous black hair. Probably a myth, I don't know.

Lunch is not complete without dessert! Took a detour to Straits Company in Bangsar for hispter cendol. We requested for extra gula melaka. Baru ada kick!

Sopoong

Confident je call this place Sojoong. It's Sopoong! Sopoong means 'picnic'. Few days back my colleagues decided to venture out a bit to Berjaya Times Square with hope that we'd be able to check out some costumes for our upcoming annual dinner. Hampeh. One shop was closed ON THAT DAY OH WTF and another 'costume' shop is actually a cosplay/kinky shop.

-_-

But that's okay. A colleague discovered Sopoong and our lunch was pretty good! You know the food is near authentic when the owners are actually there to serve you (they're Koreans btw) and the kimchi taste great. Great!

tteokbokki long time no see!

My dish. It's chicken fried rice with omelette and seaweed. Sedap! Generous chicken bits and it's kinda sweet. Add that with kimchi and boom!

Speaking of annual dinner I have yet to nail down a perfect costume. Kejap nak jadi Pocahontas, kejap nak jadi Fat Amy, kejap nak jadi Wednesday Addams... Whatever it is I need to make sure I dress comfortably because I will be performing 2 numbers that night! Dancing lor. Can't sing for peanuts. Blah.

Komik Kon Malaysia 2015

I may not be a hardcore comic fan but after experiencing the PopCon in Jakarta this year I might as well check out the first ever Komik Kon in Malaysia. Few tell-tale signs that this con may not a great one:
  • Location location location, MAEPS, Serdang. Like seriously? How are you going to attract those who doesn't drive? Especially teenagers who probably make up 50% of the avid comic fans.
  • Hardly any publicity.
That aside, photos! Entrance fee was RM35 bucks. Not exactly worth it... Do better next year guys! Here's a tip - get a big corporation to sponsor. :)

Took me a while to notice that Rumi was holding hands with the Storm Trooper. Heh heh.

The kid in the Dragonball costume is so cute! I also saw 'obi wan kenobi' walking with his daughter dressed as Princess Leia. I die. Cutest pair ever.

Your favorite superheroes dancing to feng tau music. Don't play-play, the Spiderman can do a mean breakdance move. Heh.

The boys getting acquainted with Kylo Ren. Please don't suck in the movie dude.

Yay robots!!!

Hello you.

Hello to you too.

Cool t-shirts sold here. I have enough t-shirts.

Sime Darby

Trust Sime Darby Convention Centre to be a step ahead when it comes to festive season menu. Got invited to their CNY Food Review. Oh hell I didn't get the memo about it being a full course menu food tasting dinner! (much to DH's changrin -_-)

I didn't complete the course because they started late (pffth typical). Managed to taste 3 dishes and yee sang. It was alright. I mean I've tasted better yee sang y'all. But I did enjoy their in-house band a la Stomp. And oh, they've refurbished the place. Goodbye nice yellow lamps hello er, old-fashioned chandeliers. ;p

limapulo: baba can cook

Well it seems limapulo has moved to jalan doraisamy - i haven't been to the heritage row for ages! a lot of things have changed and since i was there during lunch time i didn't get to try butter&bean and league of captains next door. waiting time to eat at limapulo during lunchtime though, is roughly half an hour. but it's worth the wait. and the best part is they have lunch sets! yay for poor corporate slaves!
But our lunch turned out expensive because Rai decided to order ikan pari and other dishes. -_-

I'm not a big fan for sago pudding but uncle john's sago is the best!
uncle john is the owner that you will see at the counter by the way. sempoi je dia.

Zamasushi

Today is our last day in Japan. Well our flight is tomorrow evening. Not looking forward to go back to work and facing the haze. Had sushi for lunch. This is our second time here. When we came for dinner last week it was packed liked hell and the waiting time was 40 minutes top. No crowd during lunch time though.

So you pick and choose your food on the screen and the food will come via the conveyer belt. It will be announced on the screen and there will be a bird-chirping sound when the food is near. Haha..

The boys love the nectar drink - it's peach tea btw. The salmon sushi with cheese is my favorite! Even the fries with cheese (yes, at a sushi place) taste really good.

The sushi above is fried oyster (eh oyster ke?). Also so so delicious.

Taknak balik Malaysia!

Getting a Bao Bao in Japan

You know, at one point of my life the Bao Bao bag (alongside the damn balenciaga) were my dream bags but getting a balenciaga never happened because hell no I ain't paying 6k plus for a bag! I could but money don't grow on trees. Bao Bao was expensive too, for a tote bag.

But only because I've been viewing the US price. In Japan, the coveted Bao Bao is very cheap, but not easy to get. So when a friend asked me to get one for her mom, I said why not! But I couldn't believe that I have to queue just to get a number to buy the bag. Like, seriously?!

Sereyes.

First stop, haul my ass to Kitte Marunouchi store. Braved the mad Tokyo commuters' rush and got here at 9:30 am, because the line starts at 10:15 am.

People started queuing at 10am, only to be told to come back at 10:30am for the official queue to start. -_-

Issey Miyake store at 9:30 am. Hey, a bag fell! Probably has a life of its own. -_-

I am number 15! But wait, number 15 means you are the 15th person for the lottery process. If you don't get a number, bye bye. -_-

Wait, wrong picture. I got #19 (lottery numbers are only up to #20). Roy got #15 which means he gets to go in first and grab whatever's there. Bags are limited though, on the day itself there were only 39 bags. So if the first 14 person buy 2 bags each (one person is only allowed to buy 2 items) so you can do the math lah. -_- Dah lah I cannot swap numbers with my husband. FML!

The biggest heart-stopping moment(s) is/are when you see the bags just flew off the racks, one by one. The guy in front of me pulak took the last small blue tote that I wanted!!! Bastard. Heard him go "nooo" when the woman in front of him touching the other bag he wanted. Dude, ko shopping handbag kalah perempuan!

2 frickin' hours later. SIMBOL KEMENANGAN.

Hi new friends (they look better IRL trust me). Left pouch and middle tote are for my friend. WHILE I JUST HAD TO GET THE BLUE ONE (it was the last one weh). Husband approved. He said I queued this long I might as well get one for myself. I like his rationale.
I belanja dia Santastic tee for taking the trouble to go through this pain with me today heheh.

I go to sleep now. Just realised it's 4am already (3am Malaysia time). The sun will be up soon. Bye.

More kebab story

There is a small kebab joint in harajuku run by Turkish men. Slightly more expensive and I think mamo kebab taste better.

mamo kebab cafe near harajuku

The hardest thing about travelling with kids (ok their refusal to walk far is another story) is telling them that you can't eat fried chicken or chicken nuggets! They are haram! Hehe. Most of the time when we go out we feed them french fries (sigh - what would jamie oliver say) or make them eat at home first.

That aside, for us adults, It's not that difficult depending on your was-was level ifyaknowwhatimean. I've traveled with people who ate like crazy at home before venturing out because they refuse to eat anything outside eventhough look, this food, that food -- confirmed halal / got no pork / certified by international islamic body bla bla bla. OK I digress. Had kebab at mamo kebab cafe, a tiny triangular food joint near Harajuku. The food is delicious! The chicken was fresh and the wrap was soft.

I don't remember the last time I had a good kebab anyway...
