“Sushi di Jepun jauh beza dari sushi di Malaysia’” said R.
I’m not the biggest fan of sushi, actually I hate it but I was willing to give in another chance.

He was right. The sushi in Japan does taste better (like how nasi dagang taste better in Kelantan). In Yokohama, just a block away from my sister-in-law’s apartment ada sebuah sushi bar. I don’t know why, but everytime I step into the sushi bar I feel like I’m in some Japanese soap drama. Protagonist-nya adalah seorang master sushi chef who makes the freshest sushi (dan saya cuma the disoriented foreigner yang takut makan sushi). We went there a couple of times for late dinner and boy do I love my sushi! The third pic are my favorites and the sushi salmon bakar with cheese is also delicious. The unagi di Narita Airport juga enak dimakan.

I’m still not touching sushi here though. Udon is still not a favorite. I also tried the fast food there. Mos Burger’s Teriyaki Chicken burger amat sedap, begitu juga Prawn burger di Lotteria. Roti burger mereka begitu lembut sekali. Yum.

I have to confess, I went to Japan unprepared. I didn’t study the language, I only wanted to go to places that I hear about, I wanted to see the sakura blossoms, beli mini stationeries and fridge magnets. Done. 2 weeks went by like a magnificent dream and I can still feel the chilly wind on my face, the taste of unagi on my tongue, the warm smile by the Yokohama old folks.

I’m already plotting my next trip to Japan!

Sorry no travelogue-sort of entries, but will update with some highlights of my trips. My attention span is short, but my time for this space is even shorter.

(sorry kasut saya tak handsome, but they are the most comfortable darnest thing ever)

Day 1 - Yokohama

Day 1 - Yokohama

It's been raining the whole day here in Yokohama. Everybody is so stylish here, rasa macam nak pakai suit and trenchcoat sambil jalan2 berlenggang pegang payung. No plans for today, perhaps pergi ke Saty to buy some groceries.

I am terrified to speak Japanese. It's much easier to say "yo gi chong mal cho a yo" (translate: I like it here in Korean) than a simple "ko ko ga dai su ki des!" (translate: I like it here in Japanese).

Hmmm mengantuk. Mahu sambung tidur. Brrhh sejuk!

My husband says that I'm trying to kill him with Super Junior (SuJu). He's probably right, I'm still in my SuJu funk selepas their awesome concert last weekend.

But my husband, being the awesome and supportive man that he is, helped to download a SuJu movie for me (who's killing who now?). Dan kalau dia tak sporting, tentu dia tidak benarkan saya pergi ke konsert bersama Korean wife saya (fine, my good friend Mei Peng is Chinese and the only Korean thing she knows to say to me is "Saranghae!", which mean I LOVE YOU).

If there's one thing local artiste can learn from these boys is that you don't need to dance/sing beria-ria/terkinja-kinja sangat to be awesome. *cough Adam AF/Stacy AF cough*

Sekian terima kasih.

Last batch of Porto Romano

Ok last pics of my lunch at PR. Lunch untuk meraikan 2 of our assistant executives yang naik pangkat (yay more work for them!). Overall the food there is exceptionally good, and spacious too! Kita tak makan dessert di sana, because it's right next to Wendy's so we indulged in frosties and milk shakes instead.

Porto Romano is located sebelah Garden International School in Mont Kiara. There is also a branch in TTDI and KL. Sekian terima kasih.

a few more to go!

yummmmm

yummeh!

to ponder

I remember dulu ketika my short stint di Illinois living in a Malaysian community, my (Malaysian) neighbor sedang memukul anaknya. Just pukul biasa, kerana anaknya nakal. My other neighbor who was generally a nice person, seorang warga Amerika, tanpa disangka terus meluru ke akak itu dan memaki-nya. "This is not how you discipline a child!," jeritnya. Maybe memukul anak is not part of American culture.

Not in my family either. I've never been slapped, kena rotan atau dijentik even. I think I turned out okay. Perhaps kaedah psychology yang diguna my parents lebih memeritkan dari deraan fizikal.

That's why I tak boleh terima hakikat that a child, any child, should dipukul didera sehingga boleh menyebabkan kematian. A child is dead. The blood is on your hands too.

Sedih apabila memikirkannya.

Last stop

I'm really really exhausted. Our lunch was nasi paku at resto Hover. Makanan only for the brave. 10 different lauks into one, with additional ayam/paru/telur of your choice. Insaf kejap taknak makan nasi dah.

We had A&W for dinner. Esok nak tapau nasi dagang balik KL.

Kuih Manja

This is my favorite kuih. It's like dorayaki, tapi bite size. Either inti kelapa warna hijau atau kaya. 10 biji = RM1.

Yum!

(We had Yati Percik for lunch. Wanita poyo yg bekerja di sana kini membenarkan pelanggan request extra kuah percik. Yeah!)

I like!

Like omg, cantiks gila kan shopping beg mak ni! Takde jual di Malaysia okay, I sanggup pergi ke Rantau Panjang okay to get this bag! So now, I lah paling hebat because I ada beg ni and uols takde. I rasa macam nak ambik je semua design tapi that's okay sbb nanti hasben I nak bawak I pergi Jepun omaigod boleh la I pakai beg ni di Jepun!!

'Nuff said.
